It is so widely recognised that it’s now a requirement for schools who want to employ a teaching assistant.
Last Friday we started on a new inhaler, and noticed that evening that the counter on it indicated she’d only gotten half the doses she was supposed to at school. On Monday, I made a point of talking to both her teachers about it, and went back over the instructions for administering the inhaler which completely insulted the lead teacher, who has asthma and an inhaler herself.
They both assured me that they understood how to give it to her and how many doses she needed. That night she again came home with only three doses missing from the inhaler, when it was supposed to be six. Tuesday morning my husband went in to speak to them about it. They assured him that she’d be getting the correct number of doses at the correct times. That night she again came home with three missing instead of six.
Wednesday he dropped her off again, and this time he asked that every time they give her a puff, they write it down, include the time, and initial it. The sheet showed six doses had been given, but the inhaler only showed four. Thursday morning my husband left work and drove over to the daycare to be there for her first dose so he could watch them administer it and make sure it was being done correctly.
Again, they ostensibly recorded everything, but this time the sheet showed eleven doses were missing from the inhaler. When I told the teacher so, she hemmed and hawed, and said “Well I immediately let her know that this was not OK.

Convey enthusiasm for what you are teaching.
Sometimes teaching assistants and new faculty are assigned to entry-level courses or courses that fulfill general education requirements. The TAs may consider such teaching assignments not interesting or important. But those are the courses taken by freshmen and sophomores that can determine if the students continue in college or drop out because they do poorly in those courses or consider what they are learning not worthwhile.
Those entry-level and gen ed courses also influence the majors students choose. Create a syllabus that provides policies and deadlines. Beginning teachers sometimes think the syllabus is a formality or even a constraint on the spontaneity of their teaching. But a well-thought-out and well-constructed syllabus can be helpful both to the students and to the instructor.

Suryo Wibowo Rizal and Novi began documenting the teaching methods at Clayton North Primary and interviewing students about what made school fun. Along with other Indonesian PhD students they wrote a book. The emphasis on creating a happy and inclusive environment reminded Rizal of an educational movement in Indonesia known as Taman Siswa Students’ Garden. The primary school is one many in Yogyakarta that is using Australian teaching methods to boost students’ performance.
Dewantoro, who had studied progressive education systems introduced by Maria Montessori in Italy and Rabindranath Tagore in India and Bengal, believed schools should be fun. It occurred to Rizal that contemporary schools in Indonesia, which stifled creativity, had moved a long way from Dewantoro’s vision. He became determined to bring “Taman” back to Indonesian children. In , Rizal asked if Clayton North primary teachers could hold workshops for teachers from 20 schools in Yogyakarta, Central Java, who wanted to change the way they taught.
Assistant principal Ken Chatterton was one of five who signed up. They all paid for their own plane tickets.
